Paper Marbling!

Learn how to make Marbled Paper for gift cards, book binding & loads of other crafts

Saturday, July 10

Making marbled paper is a blast!  It’s easy to do and useful for so many projects – including framing it just on its own!

The process is really fun and allows for lots of experimentation. There are endless ways to vary the results and no two sheets turn out the same.  It is also a tad messy.  Bring or wear old clothes that you don’t mind getting paint on.

We will provide paint, trays, and other gear.
You should bring paper or cardstock to ‘marble’.

The marbled pages sometimes take a while to dry. You might need to pick up what you make a day later.  There are lots of ways we can work this out if needed.

What you need to know:

  • Saturday, July 10

  • 10:00am – 1:00pm
  • At the CLW project space:  Church of the Living Water, 3120 Park Ave, W. Muscatine, IA
We will be in the basement – go down stairs or drive around back.

Thanks to CLW for letting us use their project space!
  • Bring a lunch for yourself. (Lunch together makes this even more fun)
  • This is designed for adults and older youth – people 12 and older will fit right in.
  • Wear or bring old clothes you don’t mind getting paint on – you likely will!
  • Bring about two dozen (more is ok) sheets of paper: cardstock, heavy typing paper, or any other paper you would like to try marbling.  Many kinds of paper will work but best results come from heavy, yet still flexible paper.  Nice drawing paper is excellent.   Index card sizes and larger produce excellent results.
  • This workshop is FREE!  (donations accepted)
  • No registration required but please let us know if you plan to come.
  • If you have any questions call:  563 260 5556  or email:  Andrew@DoNight.org

Giant Mark Twain Puppet!

DoNight artists create a giant Mark Twain street puppet for the Muscatine 4th of July parade!

The theme of this year’s parade is, “It’s a Mark Twain Kind of Fourth”.  As one of Muscatine’s larger than life hometown heroes, Mark Twain is a great character for a giant puppet.

And, for those of you into this sort of thing, the paper mache is made with pages from, wait for it…Mark Twain’s one time workplace, The Journal!    Yeah, it’s ok to roll your eyes.  We did too, but we’re secretly pleased by this little fact:-)

Construction has been underway for weeks…now it’s the rush to the finish.

There are loads of construction photos on the DoNight facebook page.

Be In The Parade With Giant Mark Twain!

What could be better than a giant Mark Twain?  A giant Mark Twain walking around with lots of Tom Sawyers of course!  You are invited to dress like Tom Sawyer, Huckleberry Finn, or Becky Thatcher and walk in the parade with us.    Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn outfits will be:  Straw Hat & Overalls, (and probably sandals because barefoot wouldn’t be a good idea.)  Becky Thatcher’s outfit…that is still being figured out.

If you want to walk with the Giant Mark Twain puppet you’ll just need to shoot an email to andrew@donight.org for some details.

Give a big holler when you see us in the parade!  That is… if for some reason you’re not dressed as Huck Finn and walking in the parade 🙂

And be sure to post your own photos if you happen to snap one of us in the parade!  Just tag them ‘DoNight’ on flickr or post them to our facebook page.  We’d love to see them!

This crazy project is generously sponsored by KariPearls – Thank You!!!
